Serve & Connect partners with six Midlands law enforcement agencies bringing free Thanksgiving to 775 families

Serve & Connect, a local nonprofit fostering positive change through sustainable police-community partnerships, is coordinating with law enforcement agencies in 5 counties across the Midlands to deliver free Thanksgiving food and produce items to lift the spirits of families who may be struggling this holiday season.
Donations from BI-LO Gives Foundation, Central Carolina Community Foundation, and South Carolina Bar Foundation have enabled Serve & Connect to secure Thanksgiving meals to hundreds of worthy citizens across 6 Midlands locations. This generosity will pave the way for respective law enforcement agencies to hand-deliver 775 free turkeys, hams, and produce bags to pre-selected families in need during the week of Thanksgiving.
Serve & Connect is partnering with officers at the City of Columbia Police Department and the Lexington Police Department to package and deliver 600 turkeys and produce bags provided by the BI-LO Gives Foundation. Thanksgiving packages will be delivered to families who are referred to each department through community partners.
An additional 175 turkeys and hams will be distributed through the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office, the Town of Camden Police Department, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office, and the Fairfield County Sheriff’s Office.
“We are honored to support this initiative in collaboration with several of our law enforcement partners. The food deliveries provide an additional opportunity for officers to interact with their communities in a positive, non-enforcement way. The deliveries also share love and support with families in need during this holiday season and build community through connection,” shared Kassy Alia Ray, CEO and Founder of Serve & Connect
In prior years, Serve & Connect has worked with police partners to host Bountiful Harvest events. The event began in partnership with the Lexington Police Department in 2018 and expanded into Columbia in partnership with the City of Columbia Police Department and the Richland County Sheriff’s Department in 2019. Last year, the event brought Thanksgiving meals to 600 families and welcomed an estimated 800-1,000 individuals for a shared meal and resource fair. However, due to COVID, Serve & Connect is unable to host a community event and is working with each law enforcement department to coordinate delivery of the food items.
