Lexington man arrested after shooting at Amazon facility in West Columbia

Posted

A Lexington man was arrested after a shooting at the county's Amazon Fulfillment Center.

Jonathan Harden Alique Walker, 20, was arrested Dec. 21 and charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to the Lexington Sheriff's Department.

A provided incident report indicates that the victim was a 31-year-old man.

“Walker and the shooting victim, who are both employed by Amazon, are linked socially in that they have mutual connections at work,” Sheriff Jay Koon is quoted in a release. “There had been some conversations back and forth between the two of them last night.”

According to the release, Walker shot the man multiple times in the center's parking lot, leaving the scene after doing so. The shooting victim, which a provided incident report indicates was struck several times, then left the facility in a car, after which the vehicle's driver called 911, leading deputies and EMS personnel to the victim.

In the report, the woman who ended up driving the car indicates that the victim and Walker were arguing in the parking lot when Walker “pulled his jacket back exposing what she believed was a firearm.”

“She stated that she then heard several gunshots, and [redacted] began crawling towards her, stating that Jonathan shot him. [Redacted] advised she then decided to assist [redacted] into his vehicle and began driving him to the hospital.”

According to her account in the report, she pulled over and called 911 when the victim began to lose consciousness.

“EMS transported the man to the hospital,” Koon is quoted. “He immediately went into surgery and, beyond that, we have no word on his condition.”

Walker was located at his home on the day of his arrest and was transported to Lexington County Detention Center. He was denied bond.

"We’re thankful everyone at our West Columbia site is safe, and we’re supporting local law enforcement in their investigation,” said Amazon Spokesperson Maria Boschetti.

Boschetti told the Chronicle Amazon is unable to share additional information but that the facility is safe and faces no current threats.

This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
