Lexington Restaurant, Nonprofit Partner to Support Homeless Veterans

Posted

A popular Lexington restaurant and a local nonprofit are partnering to support homeless veterans and first responders.

On May 24, the Flight Deck Restaurant on Old Chapin Road started letting customers add a $1, $2 or $3 donation to the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation of South Carolina on Tuesdays, with the restaurant matching the total donated each week by diners and all proceeds going to fund the foundation’s efforts to support the selected groups.

“I have tremendous respect for those who serve our communities and country,” Ted Stambolitis, owner/operator of the Flight Deck, is quoted in the release. “I am very passionate about helping the homeless veterans and wanted to give back. Working with the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation, we are able to support this cause and involve our patrons.”

The release speculates that the partnership with the restaurant might encourage others to develop similar programs of support.

“We are extremely pleased to join this partnership with Flight Deck for the benefit of our local heroes who have given so much,” Dan Hennigan, founder and chair of the 9/11 Remembrance Foundation is quoted. “Creating the awareness of critical needs for those who serve and haveserved, and inviting others to share in the support goes a long way to helping us accomplish our goal.”

According to its website, the foundation’s goals include honoring “military and first responder heroes, current and former, through the construction and maintaining of enduring memorials” and providing “financial support and donations to Military and First Responder personnel, current and former, and their families” in South Carolina.

Among the projects the group has completed is the prominently displayed First Responders Memorial in Columbia’s Vista, which includes two beams from the World Trade Center and is a partnership between the City of New York and the Midlands.
