Lexington student heads Girls Nation

Hoda Abdalla is the new American Legion Auxilary Girls Nation president! She is the daughter of Rugia Salih and Elrayah Osman of Lexington. She won over 100 others attending Girls Nation in Maryland.

A rising senior at Lexington High, Hoda attended the week-long Girls State program in June at Presbyterian College, where she was selected to attend Girls Nation.

Linda Roemer, Post 7 past president and Girls State chairman, says “American Legion Auxillary is very proud of Hoda.”

During the her stay in Maryland, Hoda visited sights in Washington, D.C. Her winning affords her the chance to tralk with Sen. Lindsay Graham and Sen. Tim Scott and visit with President Trump. For info, call Linda Roemer at 803-520-6439.

Your Lexington County Museum continues to be a popular tourist stop. Visitation was high in May and June. In May 890 visitors came from 15 states and four foreign countries.

Numbers were high in June as well, with visitors from Brazil, Canada and China.

The museum recently had two great events, the annual Family Day and another Murders and Mysteries Walking Tour of downtown Lexington. Your contributions are working as improvements are continuing and visitors keep coming.

Your tax-free weekend to purchase school necessities is Aug. 3-5. Besides computers, book bags, notebooks, clothing and footwear, college students can purchase bed linens, blankets, towels, and more for the dorm.

You may drop off school supply donations for Mission Lexington at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at 503 N. Lake Drive, Lexington. You will be helping students who cannot afford needed supplies.

Lexington County Republicans were well-represented at the party’s 31st Silver Elephant Dinner Friday. Speaker was North Carolina Congressman Mark Meadow. Presentation of the colors was provided the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department. Attending were Roxanne and U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson, Attorney General Alan Wilson, state Rep. Chip Huggins, Paula Calhoon and Donnie Myers, Beth and John Carrigg, Debbie and Bill Jones, Mike Green and Dave Wilson.

Former Lexington Mayor Randy Half-acre, wife Angela and their extended family have returned from a “sun, sand and seafood” vacation at Edisto.
