Lexington teams, Gray Collegiate boys to participate in CNHY Showcase

Posted

The Cardinal Newman Hoop-ology Showcase has lived up to its title in regard to featuring Midlands high school basketball.

“We started it 6 years ago as a way to showcase boys’ and girls’ basketball in the same event and to bring people together with a coaches social to end the weekend,” Cardinals head coach Phillip Deter said.

Recently, the Showcase has also served to assist in the fight against hunger. Over the past couple of years, Cardinal Neman has developed a partnership with Harvest Hope Food Bank.

The statewide organization has spent over 40 years helping to provide nourishment for needy children, seniors, and rural residents with limited access to grocery store through food drives and establishing emergency pantries.

CNHY Showcase fans will once again be able to assist Harvest Hope’s mission while checking out some of the Midlands’ top boys’ and girls’ players. This year’s 3-day event will feature 17 games and an opportunity for incoming fans to make donations.

When paying for tickets at the door with cash, a donation of a perishable item will take off $2 off the price of admission. Children ages five and under enter the gymnasium for free.

The Lexington girls will play two games in the tournament, while the top-ranked boys’ will face the host school Dec. 2. Defending Class 2A boys’ basketball champion Gray Collegiate faces Dynamic Prep out of Texas on the final night.

For more information about Harvest Hope Food Bank, visit harvesthope.org.  All of the games will be streamed at the Cardinal Newman YouTube Channel.
