Livingston is scholarship semifinalist

Congratulations to Berkeley Livingston, who is a semifinalist in the National Beta Scholarship Program. She placed in the top 435 of over 3,900 applicants.

Pelion Elementary will host “Math Madness Morning” March 15 and parents are invited. The program begins at 7:45 in the cafeteria. Then parents will be able to visit classrooms to play math games with their children.

Bible time Classes for participating 5th graders begins March 18. Spring Picture Day is March 20 for all grades. All Pro Dads meet March 22 at 7 am in the cafeteria.

Forts Pond Elementary students raised $1,810 during the Jump Rope for Heart. Run Hard began March 5 with practices every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:45. The 5K race for Run Hard is May 4.

The Pelion Area Showcase will be held March 26 at 5:30 pm. All four schools will participate. There will be two stages with entertainment, games, and food. A parent, Melanie Sox, fully funded the Donors Choose project of $400 to purchase historical fiction books for Mrs. Cribb’s class.

The Pelion library hosts technology training March 20 at 10:30 am. Registration is required. Preschool storytime will be March 20 at 11 am for ages 2-5 years. Books and Beyond will meet March 19 at 3:30 for grades K-5. They will be playing the Mad Scientist and mixing up crazy concoctions like slime, goo portions and chemicals that go boom. Spine Crackers Book Club will meet March 20 at 3 pm for ages 18 and up. The group is reading “Big C, Little Ta-Ta” by Janet Sheppard Kelleher. A Silk Scarf Water-coloring event is planned for March 21 at 6 pm. This event is limited, so registration is required as only nine scarves are available.

Janet Sheppard Kelleher, author, will be the guest for Author Talk on March 20 at 3 pm. The public is invited to hear her speak about being a breast cancer survivor. Her book is “Big C, Little Tata: Kicking Breast Cancer’s Butt in 7 Humorous Stories.”

Pelion Senior Center will play St. Patrick’s day bingo March 15 at 10 am. Games and exercise will be held all week.

March 14 high school games include JV/V softball at Brookland Cayce at 4:30 pm. Varsity baseball plays at Calhoun County at 6 pm. March 15 games include JV/V softball vs Edisto at 5 pm; JV/V women’s soccer at Swansea at 5:30 pm; and V baseball vs Edisto at 7 pm JV baseball plays Swansea on March 18 at 6 pm March 19 activities include JV/V softball vs Swansea at 5 pm; JV/V Women’s soccer at Strom Thurmond at 5:30 pm.; V baseball vs Swansea at 6 pm. March 20 games include Track at Chapin at 5 pm and V baseball at Orangeburg-Wilkinson at 6 pm. Games for March 21 include V/JV baseball at Batesburg Lees-ville at 4:30 pm; JV/V softball at Ridge Spring Monetta at 5 pm; and JV/V Women’s Soccer vs RNE at 5:30 pm.
