LRADAC celebrates 40 years

Happy 40th anniversary to LRADAC! The center has a rich history as a beacon of light for the treatment and prevention of substance disorders.

An anniversary breakfast was held last Wednesday at Brookland Baptist Church to commemorate this special occasion. Follwiing breakfast, President and CEO Gayle Aycock gave a welcome and special recognitions, including one to the Honorable Greg Pearce.

Others on the program were Brian McConchie, master of ceremonies; Patrick Patterson; Anthony Hampton; L.J. “Chip” Johnson; and David Jameson.

The keynote speaker was Laurie Dhue, a recovery specialist and in long-time recovery from drug and alcohol addiction.

Lexington’s JoDee Douda retired from her full-time position as Vice President and CFO in 2010 and then continued part-time until 2016.

Among those attending were Jo Counts, Cindy Harris, Robin Bowers, Kirsten Kennedy, Shirley Towne, Amy Brophy, Linda Brown, Debbie Francis, Wendy Hughes, and Lexington County Councilwoman Debbie Summers.

Lexington is very proud of Joshua Addy, who was named one of the finalists for the Greg Alia Award presented at a Knight of Honor event last Friday in Columbia. Organized by Kassy Alia, wife of slain Police Office Greg Alia, the event strives to help police and the comunity to work together .

Josh is a Clemson graduate and a corporal with the Cayce Department of Public Safety. He was nominated for this award because of the way he has implemented the role of Community Services Officer in his department and community.

The son of Teresa and John Addy Jr. of Lexington, he is the grandson of the late Frances and Lexington Mayor Kermit Addy. Congratulations, Josh.

Receiving the Citizen Hero of the Year Award was Mary Louise Resch, formerly of Lexington.

The Friends of the Lexington Main Library commemorated the 20th anniversary of the opening of the main library building by hosting Jonathon Haupt, the first executive director of the Pat Conroy Literary Center in Beaufort. He also signed copies of the new book, Our Prince of Scribes: Writers Remember Pat Conroy.
