Lexington County will soon add a new area code.
The North American Numbering Plan Administrator announced this month that that the prefix 839 will be added to new phone numbers.
Service providers are expected to have the new code ready to go by about the middle of 2020, WLTXTV reported.
The new code will cover the exact same geographic region as 803, which includes areas from Rock Hill through Columbia down to the Georgia border.
The new prefix will not replace the 803 area code.
If you have an 803 number, you won’t have to change it.
The 839 code will be only for new lines.
South Carolina has 3 other area codes.
864 covers the Upstate.
843 and 854 cover the coastal region.
