New book details Haley-Trump spat

Posted

Former Lexington resident Nikki Haley can’t seem to stay out of the news.

The former South Carolina governor’s spat with former President Donald Trump appears in “I Alone Can Fix It,” by Washington Post reporters Carol Leonig and Philip Rucker.

The reporters write that Trump has “rebuffed” Haley for what he considers her disloyal comments.

Haley denounced Trump’s actions leading up to the Jan. 6 Capitol Hill protests.

“Nikki Haley wants to come here so badly,” Trump told the reporters.

“She did a little nasty couple of statements.

“When they speak badly about me, the party is not happy about it.”

A Haley spokeswoman declined to comment.

Haley has worked for Republican candidates since she resigned as Trump’s United Nations ambassador.

Trump named Haley in 2017 as UN ambassador but she resigned 2 years later to move back to the state.

Haley started the Stand for America political action committee and has raised money for local and state Republican candidates.

She’s also arranged fund raisers for Republican women in the US House and US Sen. Tim Scott of North Charleston, who is running for re-election.

Haley spoke at the Christians United for Israel summit last Sunday in Texas and was scheduled to give the keynote speech at the Republican Governor’s Association’s annual conference.

Haley has said she may run for president if Trump decides not to run.
