West Columbia has introduced a new program that allows for local businesses and property owners to collaborate with artists to transform local spaces to "beautify the community, foster a deeper sense of place and showcase West Columbia's unique charm," the press release said.
The program will provide grants to assist property owners and businesses with covering the costs of designing and painting murals that showcase the uniqueness of the town.
The guidelines for the artists include ensuring the design is suitable for public spaces, using materials that require little maintenance and can weather the seasons and preparing the wall space for painting.
Finalists will be selected and contacted and will the have 30 days to complete their work.
"Art has the power to transform spaces and bring communities together. Our Mural Grant Program reflects West Columbia's commitment to cultural growth and urban realization. We are eager to see how this initative will inspire creativity and community pride," West Columbia Mayor Tem Miles said in press release.
