AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

An open house and chamber of commerce ribbon-cutting were held last Thursday at the new Lakeside Place Senior Living on US 378 in Lexington.

Guests gathered in the large atrium area where David Little, president of Progressive Management Group, and one of the owners, welcomed everyone.

He recognized dignitaries present: Sen. Katrina Shealy, state Rep. Paula Rawl Calhoon, county Councilman Darrel Hudson, county Veterans Affairs Officer Ed Lundeen, and members of law enforcement.

Cutting the ribbon were the first residents, Marie Bagley and Robert Heil. Representing the Great Lexington Chamber of Commerce were Otis Rawl, Angela Klosterman, Sondra Gettys, Adam DeLoach, and Conner Watkins.

Staff members introduced were Executive Director Debbie Shealy, Director of Resident Care Donna Kimberlin, Business Manager Linda Allen, Activities Angel Ellis, Food Service Sabrina McLeod, and Community Relations Director Vicky Caldwell.

Guests enjoyed a delicious buffet, and tours while listening to Mary Ann Shealy playing the baby grand piano.

The facility houses 32 residents at the present, either in assisted living or memory care. The venue offers full-service dining, a coffee-snack room, a hair salon, and even a grandchildren’s room complete with TV, books and toys.

Would you like to have high tea served with open-faced sandwiches and delicious sweets on a relaxing Sunday afternoon? The Lexington Main Library is sponsoring just that! Last Sunday, a number of guests sipped tea while hearing a program on the history of high tea. Our southern sweet tea is considered the household wine in the South. So interesting is that the only tea plantation in the country is in Charleston.

The schedule and themes for upcoming teas is: Sept, 8, chai; Oct. 13, haunted tea; Nov. 10, Victorian tea; Dec. 8, holiday cookie. Tea Parties run from 2:30 to 4 pm. Hats are always appropriate. Free of charge, the teas offer an entertaining afternoon and an opportunity to visit the local library.

Back to school and football are the talk these days.

Don’t forget to donate needed school supplies. Mission Lexington would appreciate backpacks, composition notebooks, loose-leaf paper, pencil cases, colored pencils, crayons and anything else you care to donate. They will dispurse them to families in need of help. Monetary donations are helpful. Mission Lexington is at 216 Harmond St., Lexiington.

High school and college football standings and predictions are all the talk these days. The Clemson Tigers first game is Aug. 29 at Clemson and the Carolina Gamecocks game is Aug. 31 in Charlotte.

Fall is coming up but summer heat remains.. Remember, do no leave children or pets in parked vehicles. It can be deadly.

A special happy birthday to Dot Tumey, who will be 101 this Friday! Her home church, Lexington Baptist, will honor her at its Maters and Mayonnaise and Bluegrass Aug. 16 at 6 pm. The public is invited.
