Cayce revokes hotel license

Cayce City Council late Thursday night revoked the business license of the Knight’s Inn.

They had already suspended the license after the owner allowed the property on Airport Boulevard to become a hotbed of crime, Paul Kirby of the Lexington Ledger reported.

Cayce Public Safety Chief Byron Snellgrove said his department had responded to more than 160 times in 3 months.

He said complaints at the motel had taxed his department’s manpower.

The calls hurt other businesses that cooperate with the police and maintain order at their properties.

Police not only responded to petty drug crimes but for trafficking in methamphetamine and other hard drugs, attempted murder, robbery, kidnapping, burglaries and other serious offenses.

Chief Snellgrove said the owner only made the problems worse.

The last straw occurred when an employee would not let a victim use a phone to call police after she was assaulted.

The property could be sold or licensed to someone else.

Child abuser sentenced to 7.5 years

A Lexington County man has been sentenced to 7 ½ years in prison for soliciting minors.

Albert Lee Spivey pleaded guilty to 2 counts of Criminal Solicitation of a Minor in Lexington County before the Honorable Judge William Keesley.

In Aug. 2017, Facebook contacted the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in reference to an individual in South Carolina contacting underage girls for nude photos and to meet for sex.

The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children contacted the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office and determined the individual resided in Lexington County.

After the execution of a search warrrant on his home, Spivey confessed to contacting the girls. A forensic examination of his devices found additional evidence of child exploitation.

Spivey used coercion and threats of violence to compel 3 children three victims, ages 16, 15, and 12 years of age, to send him nude photos of themselves.

Spivey was arrested on February 22, 2018.

“This case is a good example of why we urge parents to teach their children about internet safety,” Attorney General Wilson said. “This predator was going online looking for children to solicit, so our kids need to be aware of that and know what to watch out for.”

Spivey was sentenced to 7 1/2 years in prison, will have to register as a sex offender, and will have to register with the child abuse registry.

Pelion man held for sex with minor

Justin Darrel Rawl, 22, of Pelion, has been arrested for 6 charges connected to the sexual exploitation of a minor.

Investigators received a CyberTipline report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children which led them to Rawl. Investigators state Rawl possessed multiple files of child pornography.

Rawl was arrested Oct. 23, on 6 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, third degree (§16-15-410), a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years imprisonment on each count.

The Attorney General’s Office will prosecute the case.

California man convicted in Lexington County murder

A Lexington County jury convicted Terry Renee McClure, 31, of Fairfield, California, of the Murder of Tycus Toland and the attempted murder of his brother, Vonkeith Toland.

The Honorable Frank R. Addy, Jr., sentenced McClure to Life in the South Carolina Department of Corrections on the murder and 30 years on the attempted murder.

On April 24, 2014, Terry McClure and Justin Butler traveled to South Carolina from California and Alabama, respectively.

Butler contacted Vonkeith Toland under the guise of buying a car.

On April 26, 2014, Mc-Clure and Butler met up with Vonkeith at his home on Bushberry Road in Pelion.

McClure and Butler broke into Vonkeith’s home, ransacked the residence, and took the DVR connected to the home’s surveillance system.

McClure and Butler then returned to Atlanta after the shooting, eventually fleeing to California and Alabama, respectively.

McClure has prior convictions for weapons and robbery along with a parole revocation.

Butler was convicted in 2016 and sentenced to 50 years in prison.
