Leesville man gets 8 years

Norman Benjamin Walker, Jr., 24, of Leesville, was sentenced last week in Lexington County to 8 years in prison.

Walker pled guilty to Strong Arm Robbery, Burglary Second Degree – Violent, Assault and Battery 1st Degree, two counts of Grand Larceny, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Criminal Conspiracy, and Failure to stop for a Blue Light. The sentence was handed down by Circuit Court Judge Walton J. McLeod, IV.

Walker began his crime spree in September of 2016 and continued through January of 2018.

40 years for murder

Derrick Davon Sligh, 29, received a sentence of 40 years in prison following his guilty plea to Murder in the shooting death of his girlfriend, Marquita “Tasha” Mobley, on November 19, 2017.

Sligh shot Mobley 5 times in the presence of Mobley’s 10-year-old son. Sligh also shot Mobley’s brother, Jirmane, 29.

Jirmane Mobley was left paralyzed from the injury.

Marquita Mobley is survived by her son and a daughter.

This case was prosecuted by 11th Circuit Solicitor Deputy Solicitor Suzanne Mayes.

12 years for sex-offender

Edward Morris Greenwood, 32, of Columbus, GA pleaded guilty this week to 1 count of sex trafficking of a minor and was sentenced to 12 years in prison by Judge Eugene Griffith.

The case was investigated by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Office.

Greenwood also pleaded guilty to one count of attempted armed robbery and received a concurrent 12 year sentence.
