Irmo cops catch burglary suspect

Quavian Bing, 31, of Irmo has been arrested on burglary charges.

Bing allegedly broke into the Silver Fox Grill in the 7400 Block of Broad River Road on Oct. 25. On Oct. 29, Bing allegedly broke into the Burger King and the SevenEleven convenience store in the 7700 Block of Broad River Road.

During these burglaries, Bing allegedly stole cash registers and an undisclosed amount of cash.

On Sunday, Irmo Police along with the assistance of the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division were able to locate Bing in a Hotel on Columbiana Drive where he was taken into custody without incident.

Bing is currently booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center where a bond hearing has been scheduled.

He has been charged with 3 counts burglary, 2nd degree [Violent] which is a felony punishable by imprisonment for not more than 15 years upon conviction.

Accused mail thief charged

Monica Pamella Swain, 28, was seen by deputies removing mail from mailboxes in a Columbia neighborhood.

“During a routine patrol, deputies were flagged down by workers who witnessed a woman taking mail out of area mailboxes and putting it in her vehicle. When the vehicle was located, deputies saw Swain removing mail from a mailbox,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.

Swain is charged with financial transaction card theft, failure to stop for blue lights and 8 counts of petit larceny.

Swain is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center on a $70,000 bond.

Ft. Jackson solider dies

An 18-year-old Regular Army soldier from California suffered a fatal injury while training at a rifle range on Fort Jackson.

Pvt. James Noel Zamora, 18, active duty basic combat training soldier, died Nov. 5.

No other trainees or cadre were injured on the range.

A military law enforcement investigation into the incident is underway, but the Ft. Jackson spokesperson said the death was not related to covid-19.

Cayce cops seek hit-and-run driver

Cayce police are searching for a driver of a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision last week.

The incident occurred in the east bound lanes near 1925 Airport Blvd, at approximately 7:45 pm Nov. 2. Officers were notified shortly after 8 pm, when a passing motorist observed an injured pedestrian on the shoulder of the road.

The involved vehicle is possibly a 2013-2018 model year metallic blue Ford Fusion. It may have damage to the right front headlamp assembly, bumper or hood.

Police are asking anyone who was in the area of Airport Blvd. and I-26 around the time of the collision to reach out to investigators.

Cell phone store owner arrested

South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) agents arrested a Lexington County business owner and charged him with operating without a retail license.

Michael David Deangleo Tucker, 28, of Columbia, owns Uptown Wireless in Lexington County, a cell phone store, according to the arrest warrant.

If convicted, Tucker faces a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail and/or a $200 fine. He is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.

Weather postpones concerts, movies

Due to expected severe weather, Cola Concerts will postpone its 1st week of shows.

Cola Concerts will launch Monday, Nov. 16 at 7 pm with a special free showing of the family-friendly movie Cars, said promoter Joe Chambers.

The movie on Tuesday, Nov. 17, will be Jurassic Park at 7 pm.

The 1st live show will be country star Kip Moore Thursday, Nov. 19.

The Shovels & Rope performance has been rescheduled for March 19.
