The Pelion Peanut Party will be Nov. 2-3 this year. Visit Face-book “Pelion Peanut Party” for updates. The festival will feature entertainment, a carnival. concessions, car show, 5K, cooking contest, parade, and crafts. Each Memorial Day, the Pelion Ruritan honors veterans at the Ruritan Veterans Memorial. A new flag is raised and the old flag is taken down, folded and placed in a display case to be given to a Ruritan member who has served in the military.

The original flag from 2015 is displayed in the Ruritan meeting place, the Lutheran Parish Building. The flag from 2016 was presented to Frank Stover Jr. in memory of his dad, Frank Stover, Army, who served many years in the Ruritan. The 2017 flag was presented to Tim Treaster, Air Force, who serves daily to make sure the flag is flown according to protocol. The 2018 flag was presented at the July meeting to Steve Neese, Navy, who has served as the Ruritan Treasurer for many years.

Pelion Library hosts

Porkchop Productions August 3 at 10:30 a.m. for grades K-5. The event presents RAPunzel, a bored princess and her overprotective mother,. Cook the Book features Fiction Foods for ages 18 and up and meets on August 7 at 12 noon. The Library chooses a cook book, participants prepare the recipes to share.

Pelion Senior Center will enjoy the youth from Florence Baptist Church August 3 and travel to Beulah August 9 for the Senior Social. Every day events include socializing 8:30-10 a.m.; bingo and crafts, 10 a.m.; exercise, 11 a.m.,; lunch at noon; games, puzzles and canasta from 1 until 2:30 p.m.
