The second day of the Black Bass World Championship on Lake Murray concluded on Oct. 21 with team USA in first place and team South Africa in second. USA Bass pair Fred Roumbanis and James Watson came to the day’s weigh-in, held at Dreher Island State Park, with a 7.5-pound bass.

“That’s a giant-a-- bass!” Watson told the crowd.

The 2022 edition of the tournament marked the first time that it has been held in the United states.

The Oct. 21 weigh-in continued with pairs from each team climbing the stage to weigh their fish, tell the crowd about themselves and about their experience so far in the tournament.

A concert from Ridge Spring native and up-and-coming country singer Cody Webb followed the weigh-in. While Webb sang, guests were able to enjoy food trucks and mingle with vendors. Later in the concert, the USA Bass team presented Webb with a jersey and made him an honorary member of the team.

The championship wrapped up Oct. 22, with the USA Bass team coming in first with 45 fish caught with a total weight of 60,471 grams. The South Africa team came in second with 39 fish totaling 37,139 grams and Italy came in third with 35 fish totaling 34,588 grams.
