The annual Christmas in Cayce celebration kicked off Dec. 1 with the third year of the city’s drive-through light display. In addition to more than 500,000 lights, the experience included three musical groups, snacks provided by the Women’s Club of Cayce, a visit by Mr. and Mrs. Claus, and stuffed animals handed out to children by the city’s fire department.
The drive-through was created to provide citizens a way to view the lights when COVID-19 precluded the city holding its traditional tree lighting. According to James Denny, manager of the city’s parks department, they stopped counting after more than 500,000 lights were put up, with setup for the event beginning in August.
“Everybody's smiling when they leave here,” said City Manager Tracy Hegler. “I like standing at the end, so I [can] see that.”
