The Irmo Okra Strut, the town’s signature annual event was back in action Sept. 29-30 in Irmo Community Park, with Saturday festivities including a concert, a parade, amusement rides, vendors and plenty of okra. Included among the parade participants were Tim Whipple, head basketball coach at Irmo High School, and Irmo Mayor Barry Walker among many others. Performances during the day included local dance groups on the event’s side stage. The free festival, which just celebrated its 49th year, is considering big changes, including perhaps a different venue, as it looks forward to its 50th anniversary.
