Art on State, West Columbia’s annual spring block party, took over its namesake corridor the evening of May 5. As ever, there was a line of live muralists beautifying the asphalt along the 100-200 blocks, as well as other demonstrations, including a blacksmith tending his fire and banging away with his hammer. Kids had the opportunity to add their own creative embellishments to the street with sidewalk chalk, and a selfie station allowed families the chance to capture the night. 20 Ride, billed as the nation’s top Zach Brown Tribute band, played with support from local musicians Marcus Gullen and Reggie Sullivan. The city’s Meeting Street Artisan Market was open for a special Friday night shopping opportunity, and local businesses, such as D’s Wings and Savage Craft Ale Works, welcomed big crowds, boosted by the festival and the Cinco De Mayo holiday.
