Photos: West Columbia draws big crowd for inaugural music festival

West Columbia drew a big crowd for its new music festival. The city-backed Meeting Street Music Fest shut down its namesake corridor between State Street and Ninth Street Sept. 16, placing stages at each end and offering a diverse array of acts, including Meli’sa Morgan, the Billy Joel tribute band Turnstiles, The Reggie Sullivan Band, Civil Remedy, ChaVonne Campbell & Tre Sounds, and E.Z. Shakes. Morgan, the R&B headliner who charted hits in the ’80s and ’90s, lives in Aiken now and was backed by a team of crack local musicians who frequently play at Meeting Street jazz club Chayz Lounge. Multiple businesses along the street sold beer and wine to the crowd, and there were a variety of food trucks there to feed people who got hungry during the four-hour evening event. There was also a vendor fair, with a host of creators gathering under a tent to sell attendees their wares.
