Record Store Day Black Friday at Scratch N’ Spin

Get in the holiday spirit with some nontraditional sounds while you knock out your Black Friday shopping. Uber-versatile local multi-instrumentalist performs some of the engrossingly odd renditions from his two “Sitar Christmas” collections he releases next month. Zach Seibert, the haunting songwriter at the heart of local folk-rock outfit E.Z. Shakes, also plays. The free event will also feature exclusive and rare vinyl releases and a storewide sale. Black (Beer) Friday

If the rarity you prefer is of the beer variety, WECO Bottle & Biergarten has you covered — particularly if you like that beer dark. The West Columbia spot hosts its annual post-Thanksgiving dark beer event starting at 10:30 p.m., featuring a special dark beer tap takeover and a selection of bottles from Goose Island’s ever-popular Bourbon County series. J White (Concert)

Sabin Sharpe (concert)

Country Christmas Celebration

The State Farmers Market gets even more into the holiday spirit following its November arts and crafts market with this even more festive event. In addition to an opportunity to shop local holiday décor and craft vendors, there will be a selection of live Christmas trees for purchase, along with the chance for kids to write letters to and take pictures with Santa and create DIY crafts. No Name Bluegrass Band (concert)

Golden Girls Party & Trivia

The Whisnants (concert)

Long-running North Carolina gospel singing group The Whisnants perform at the Midlands Gospel Singing Center tonight, bringing clean harmonies and a straightforward approach to worship music. Holiday Market

The Town of Lexington’s annual Snowball Festival kicks off its Dec. 2-5 return following a COVID-19-scuttled 2020 with this market at the Icehouse Amphitheater Pavilion (107 W Main St.). The event goes from Thursday through Friday, with hours from 4 to 8 p.m. each day. There will be fresh pro duce, gifts and goods from local vendors for sale, as well as food to nibble on. Candlelight of Remembrance Drive-Thru

Southland Memorial Gardens (700 W Dunbar Rd. in West Columbia) offers this drive-thru event “in memory and honor of your loved ones that are no longer with us.” Multiple remembrance areas will be set up throughout the cemetery where you can stop and enjoy from your vehicle. Hop & Shop

This event offers the opportunity to hop through shops on Highway 6 near the Lake Murray Dam. Stops include Wingard’s Market (wingardsmarketing.com), Nifty Gifty (the-nifty-gifty.business.site), Lake Murray Country Visitor Center/Lake Murray Souvenir Shoppe (lakemurraygifts.com) and Poshture Boutique and Fancy Pants Children’s Boutique (poshtureboutique.com). The businesses will be open from 4 to 7 p.m. and will offer specialty drinks at each location.

Lights Before Christmas

Holidays and animals and lights, oh my! Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy.) holds its annual Lights Before Christmas event on select nights in November and December starting Nov. 20. Hours are 5 to 9 p.m. each night. The festivities include Santa’s Village, an animated LED story tree, the Candy Cane Carousel, the North Pole Express and snacks such as s’mores. Admission is $12 for adults and $10 for children. There are additional fees for some activities. Find out more at riverbanks.org.

Holiday Lights on the River

One of the area’s popular parks will again transform at night with what it says are “millions of sparkling lights.” Holiday Lights on the River at Saluda Shoals Park (6071 St. Andrews Rd.) says it’s “the Midlands’ largest drive-through light show,” and it returns Nov. 25 through Dec. 31, going from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. In addition to the more than three miles of animated light displays, there will be a “winter wonder tube slide,” a hayride and train that go through the lights, a laser light show on the Wetland Trail and holiday movie screenings. No activities Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve or Christmas night. Santa’s Claus’et Gift Shop (get it?) will offer holiday shopping. Concessions, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Cayce Christmas Drive-Thru

The Christmas in Cayce celebration kicks off tonight with this drive-thru light event on Dec. 2, started last year as a pandemic substitute for the typical multi-day festival and incorporated into this year’s expanded festivities due to popular demand. Lighted displays will be set up around Cayce City Hall (1800 12th St.), and the only cost will be whatever amount of time you have to sit in line in your car. The event goes from 6 to 8 p.m. The sponsoring Woman’s Club of Cayce asks that you bring a canned or nonperishable food donation to assist God’s Helping Hands and the Scooter Scott project. Christmas in Cayce festivities continue through Dec. 11. More info is available at caycesc.gov.
