Could you carve a pumpkin under water?

You may have tried bobbing for apples.

But have you ever tried carving pumpkins in Lake Murray?

Dozens of divers tried it at Billy Dreher Island State Park Saturday morning.

They were carving pumpkins for cancer research.

The 6th annual Larry Ogburn Memorial Carve for a Cure fundraiser wasn’t your typical pumpkin carving event, reported WIS-TV.

Certified divers from across the state took their pumpkins underwater to show off the sport and their creativity.

“It’s a challenge for these divers to carve underwater,” said organizer Andy Ogburn. “The buoncy is a different factor, and the pumpkins tend to float.”

Creative fundraisers have to stretch their imaginations to come up with cool – or laughable – ways to finance worthy causes.

Could swallowing goldfish or phone booth stuffing come next – if you can find a phone booth in the cell phone age?
