Residents interviewed for ‘time capsule’

AROUND CAYCE, SPRINGDALE & WEST COLUMBIA

Springdale Mayor Michael Bishop said town officials have been successful with its documentary “time capsule” project.

More than a dozen residents have been interviewed about growing up and working in Springdale.

“I’ve learned so much about the town from our older residents so far and look forward to learning more,” said Bishop.

You can catch a ride in Springdale on the CMRTA metro bus. Tickets are now being sold at the Springdale Town Hall. The route serves the Columbia Metropolitan Airport.

Bishop said the bus route has expanded.

Springdale Councilman Kevin Reeley served on the board that has broadened the transit system to include Springdale.

The bus also has stops in West Columbia. The stops are the 100, 400, and 800 Blocks of State Street; Alexander Road in front of the Village at Riverwalk; and West Columbia Riverwalk Amphitheater.

A free bus runs Sunday through Wednesday, 9 am–6 pm, and Thursday through Saturday, 9 am–midnight. The routes run every 30 minutes between West Columbia and Cayce via Gervais Street and Lincoln Street to the Main Street District.

Bishop also reports that Springdale water line construction has begun on Wattling Road from Parrish Plantation to Silstar.

“They are looking at tapping under the road to connect to Hollydale as well,” Bishop said. “This will hopefully get rid of any stagnant water issues... It is scheduled to be completed in a couple of weeks.”

Bishop also congratulated Springdale Councilwoman Dr. Viki Fecas for completing the Advanced Graduates Municipal Elected Officials Institute program.
