Lexington School District 2 has a longstanding tradition of community service.
Now it will become the 1st Lexington County public school district to have all of its schools as food collection points for the annual Souper Bowl of Caring.
The Souper Bowl of Caring, started in 1990 in Columbia, is today a nationwide campaign to raise awareness about hunger. It is held in conjunction with the NFL Super Bowl game.
Each Lexington 2 school will collect nonperishable food items for local food banks to help restock shelves that were depleted over the holidays because of high demand.
The campaign runs through Jan. 31.
Food donations may be dropped off in designated boxes at any Lexington 2 schools in the Cayce-West Columbia area or at the district office.
Area residents, businesses and organizations are encouraged to drop off food donations as well.
