Sen. Lindsey Graham fought off a well-financed Democratic challenge and won re-election Tuesday.
A conservative county voter turnout gave the senator 78,716 to challenger Jaime Harrison's 37,810.
Harrison's strategy to siphon off Graham support with ads for conservative Dr. Bill Bledsoe did not work.
Bledsoe got 2,031 votes from voters who apparently did not realize he had dropped out of the race.
Graham's win may help Republicans retain their majority in the US Senate.
County voters gave President Trump even more votes, 79,874, to former Vice President Joe Biden's 36,632 votes.
Voter turnout was high. With 97 of 99 precincts reporting, 210,568 votes were cast, 86,342 of them on election day.
In the hotly-contested District 5  school board race, challengers Catherine Huddle and Rebecca Hines won in a crowded field. This is expected to tip the balance of votes against the district's heavily-criticized spending plans.
In other contested races:
• Republican Congressman Joe Wilson defeated Democrat Adair Boroughs 79,766 to 36,296.
• Democratic state Sen. Nikki Setzler defeated Republican Chris Smith 11,283 to 9,963.
• Incumbent state Sens. Katrina Shealy, Shane Massey, Ronnie Cromer, Dick Harpootlian and Nathan Ballentin won reelection in contested races.
• County Council candidate Bimbo Jones defeated Bobby Porter 9,701 to 4,087.
Many other incumbents won without opposition.
District 1 voters elected school board candidates Kathy Henson, Anne Marie Green, Mike Anderson and Brent Powers in a crowded field.
