Shumpert sworn in at council

Councilman Daniel Shumpert was sworn in at the last Pelion Town Council meeting. Council members are Larry Sossoman, Mike Mascio, Starr Corley, and Daniel Shumpert. Frank Shumpert serves as Mayor. Town Council meetings are the second Thursday of each month. The public is welcome. If you’re interested in what’s happening in the town, come to the monthly meetings.

Pelion Library will have card playing day on December 28; Bacon day is December 30. The center will be closed on January 1 for New Years. Activities start up again in January with Tween Extreme making Smart Bubbles on January 7 at 3:30 pm. This event is for grades 4-7. Join the group for good clean fun and create a masterpiece using bubble paint.

Pelion High Varsity wrestling will be at Lexington High on December 30 at 10 am and on December 31 at 9 am. Varsity wrestling will be January 4 at 9:30 am at North Central High.

Pelion Senior Center will play Bingo on December 31. The center will be closed on January 1 for New Years.

If you didn’t get a chance to see “This Man Called Jesus” at the South Congaree arena, you missed a good presentation. Plan to attend next year and see what these 125 cast members have worked on all year.

School winter break has started and will end on January 7 when students return to class.

Pelion Ruritan Club recently celebrated with its annual Christmas Social. The Club has earned five gold certificates for its work in the community and the certificates were displayed at the meeting. The certificates are given by the National Ruritan and presented by the district governor at the yearly district meetings. The categories for earning certificates are Social Development, Public Service, Environment, Business and Professions, and Citizenship and Patriotism. If you are interested in becoming a member of the Ruritan, plan to attend a meeting on the 4th Thursday of each month.
