Early registration has begun at the Gilbert-Summit Library for the annual Summer Reading Program. This year’s theme is “A Universe of Stories.” Official logging on for the program begins June 1. For more information call 785-5387.

Gilbert Middle School’s Junior Beta Club will sponsor the annual Relay for Life this week. The theme is Give Cancer the Boot. Club members have many activities planned. Students can choose to wear hats or pajamas for a dollar a day this week. Other ways to raise money will include filling bottles with donated dimes and asking parents in the rider lines for donations. Luminary bags will be available for $10 to honor or remember a loved one.

Congratulations to Gilbert High School Coach Ashley Burnett on his 500th baseball team win. Coach Burnett was presented a GHS baseball jersey with “Burnett 500” on the back.

Lexington School District One Board of Trustees has approved the first reading of a name for the new Gilbert Elementary School. It will be called Centerville Elementary School. At the turn of the 20th century, there was a Centerville School in the area and, later, a larger one. The final reading for the name takes place this week.

Shiloh United Methodist Church invites the community to its monthly “Lunch and Learn.” The topic is South Africa to South Carolina Testimony “ presented by Mark Forrester, Director of the Gilbert-Summit Water District. It will be May 14 from noon until 1 pm. The cost is $10 for the catered luncheon. The church is at 1000 Springhill Road. Call 359-7586 to RSVP by May 9.

Beulah United Methodist Church invites the community to its class, “Take Charge of Your Money,” which will be held May 5, 4-6 pm. All course materials, refreshments and child care are provided. Pre-registration for the class is preferred. BUMC is l at 161 Beulah Church Road. For information or to register, email beulah1@comporium.net .

BUMC will have its annual Ladies Night Out May 10 at 6 pm. The evening includes entertainment and a meal. Tickets are $9 for adults and $5 for children ages 7 to 12.
