The Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) sorority announced a new event to help facilitate and educate voters ahead of the 2024 elections.
The public forum, called “Soaring to the Polls,” will be on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Columbia High School Auditorium. The goal of the event is “to provide invaluable information and resources to ensure every community member is informed and motivated to participate in the democratic process,” the press release read.
The event will feature local South Carolinian and CNN commentator Bakari Sellers as well as a panel discussion with senior College of Charleston political science major, state house representative for the 41st district Annie McDaniel and author and former city council member Wes Bellamy.
There will also be on-site voter registration for those who attend the forum.
The AKA chapters sponsoring the event said in the press release that they “invite all community members to join us for this informative and empowering event. Engage with our panelists, register to vote, and take part in the conversation about our future. Let’s come together to make a difference.”
