Friday — July 29

Purple Martin Tour

Head over to Lake Murray for an evening of birdwatching as part of the Purple Martin Tour. Join Wingard’s Naturalists and USCG Captains Zach Steinhauser or Rick Crout for a pontoon tour of the largest purple martin roost in North America, right on Lake Murray. During summer evenings, hundreds of thousands of purple martins travel to the 12-acre Bomb Island to roost. The tour runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. and costs $50. “Beauty & the Beast” (musical)

The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo) hosts a production of “Beauty & the Beast” by the Chapin Community Theatre. The beloved Disney musical kicks off at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $15 for youth seventeen and under. Performances continue July 30 and 31 before returning for a final weekend Aug. 4-7. Visit harbisontheatre.org for more information.

Leadership Lexington County Night (fundraiser)

Savage Craft Ale Works (430 Center St. in West Columbia) hosts Leadership Lexington County for a fundraising event at the brewery. For every draft beer purchased, Savage Craft will donate $1 to the Dream Riders organization, a nonprofit that provides opportunities for people with special needs to benefit from equine-assisted activities in a safe environment. Saturday — July 30

The Market at Icehouse

The Town Of Lexington hosts their farmer’s market at the Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W Main St)  from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The market is primarily intended as a farmer/grower/local artisan market that encourages local production. Southeast Crab Feast

Head to Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd. in Columbia) for the Southeast Crab Feast, a crab lover’s dream. The feast offers all-you-can eat fresh blue crabs, one side of fish and chips, live music and a family-friendly environment. The festivities begin at 1 p.m., and admission costs between $15 and $38. Haywire (concert)

Cravin’ Melon (concert)

Letron Brantley (concert)

Join Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia) as they host Letron Brantley and Friends performing “The Soul Jazz Experience.” Expect to hear classic songs by Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Aretha Franklin and more. Grunge-a-Palooza (concert)

New Brookland Tavern (122 State St. in West Columbia) presents Grunge-a-Aalooza, a multi-band tribute to the 1990s grunge sound. Love Killed Kurt will perform songs by Nirvana, Hey Johnny Park will play songs by the Foo Fighters, and Flannel will play a set of various ’90s grunge hits. Showtime is 7 p.m., and admission is $20. Meeting Street Artisan Market

Head over to the Interactive Art Park (425 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for the Meeting Street Artisan Market. The market includes vendors selling original art, crafts, foods and produce. Support local vendors, interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park, and then head to State and Meeting streets and Court Avenue to continue shopping and dining. Toucan Tuesday

Riverbanks Zoo and Garden (500 Wildlife Pkwy. in Columbia) teams up with Harvest Hope Food Bank for the return of Toucan Tuesdays. On Toucan Tuesdays, guests visiting Riverbanks will receive buy-one- get-one admission to the park with a donation of two cans (or bags or boxes) of non-perishable food items: “Harvest Hope’s most needed items include canned vegetables, canned proteins like chicken and tuna, one-pound bags of dried beans, and one-pound boxes of pasta.” Riverbanks Zoo is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Visit riverbanks.org for more information.

“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” (musical)

Town Theatre (1012 Sumter St. in Columbia) presents “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.” The classic musical, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, was nominated for seven Tony awards and features beloved songs like “Go, Go Joseph” and “Any Dream Will Do.” The production runs through July 31. Guitar Showcase

Tin Roof Columbia (1022 Senate St.) teams with Freeway Music to present a Guitar Showcase on July 31. The event, which begins at 2 p.m., shines the spotlight on Freeway Music’s best guitar students. Warfare Check (concert)

“Jersey Boys” (musical)

The Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St. in Columbia) presents the Tony and Grammy-award-winner musical “Jersey Boys” as part of the Broadway in Columbia series: “They were just four guys from Jersey, until they sang their very first note. They had a sound nobody had ever heard … and the radio just couldn’t get enough of. But while their harmonies were perfect on stage, off stage it was a very different story — a story that made them an international sensation all over again. Go behind the music and inside the story of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons.” Showtime on July 30 is 7:30 p.m., and tickets cost between $43 and $63. First Thursday on Main

Columbia’s Main Street presents another edition of the First Thursday series on Aug. 4. Among the festivities, courtesy of BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina, the Columbia Museum of Art (1515 Main St.)  will be open with no admission charge from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. There will be docents throughout the museum if you have questions about their various exhibits. A guided tour of featured exhibitions “In the Shadow of Monet: Giverny and American Impressionism” and “Amanda McCavour: Bright Little Day Stars” starts at 6 p.m. Visit columbiamuseum.org for more information.
