Thursday — Aug. 4

 

Bask (concert)

Asheville metal band Bask brings a host of epic riffs and heroic melodies to New Brookland Tavern (122 State St. in West Columbia), with support from Generation of Vipers and local band Bathe. The show costs $15 ($12 advance) and starts at 7 p.m. Find more info at newbrooklandtavern.com.

 

Friday — Aug. 5

 

Paddle & Pint

Saluda Shoals Park (5605 Bush River Rd. in Columbia) hosts Paddle & Pint. Paddle the Lower Saluda River surrounded by beautiful scenery and wildlife. After an hour on the water, sample delicious craft beers. Trip is dependent on weather and river levels. Boats and all necessary equipment are provided. Tickets are $47 per person, the event begins at 6 p.m., and it’s for adults 21 and up only. Visit icrc.net for more information.

 

“Rock of Ages” (musical)

Join the Icehouse Amphitheater (107 W. Main St.) for a live performance of “Rock Of Ages.” Relive the greatest rock hits of the ’80s with the help of in-show pyrotechnics and a live band. Gates open at 7 p.m., and there will also be food trucks and drinks available. The show begins at 8:30 p.m., and tickets are $30. Visit icehouseamphitheater.com for more information.

 

Brew at the Zoo

Riverbanks Zoo & Garden (500 Wildlife Parkway) hosts its annual Brew at the Zoo event this week. From domestics to imports to specialty micros, guests can choose their favorite beer and walk through the zoo or stay in the plaza and listen to live music. Concessions will also be available for purchase. No one under 21 will be admitted. Tickets cost between $60 and $100. “Beauty & the Beast” (musical)

The Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo) hosts a production of “Beauty & the Beast” by the Chapin Community Theatre. The beloved Disney musical kicks off at 7:30 p.m. tonight, and tickets are $20 for adults, $18 for seniors, and $15 for youth seventeen and under. Performances continue through Aug. 7. Opening Reception for Sonya Diimmler

Rob Shaw Gallery & Framing (324 State St. in West Columbia) hosts an opening reception for artist Sonya Diimmler’s new exhibition: “Known for her dramatic use of color, Diimmler paints South Carolina landscapes and abstracts along with her favorite subjects and muses, her bulldog Smedley and her Boston Terrier Mattie.” The reception begins at 6 p.m. and is free to attend. Sabin Sharpe (concert)

Saturday — Aug. 5

 

Encanto (movie)

Head over to Melvin Park (370 Eptings Rd. in Chapin) for a screening of the popular Disney film “Encanto.” The film is being shown as part of the family-friendly Chapin Summer Movie Night series. Food trucks will be on site from 7 to 9:30 p.m., and there will also be an inflatable slide. The movie begins at 8:45 p.m. Admission is free. Visit icrc.net for more information.

 

29th Annual Lexington Community Fun Day

The Town of Lexington hosts its annual Community Fun Day at 131 Duffie Dr. There will be live music, food, free school supplies (while they last) and a job fair. The event is free to attend and runs from 3 p.m. to 8pm. Visit lexingtonsc.org for more information.

 

Luau

Steel Hands Brewing (2350 Foreman St. in Cayce) hosts a luau event. Jupiter Coyote will perform an acoustic set, there will be a Papaya Hefeweizen beer release, a Hawaiian shirt contest (the prize is an inflatable branded Tropical IPA inner tube), games of flamingo toss and pineapple bowling, a special luau grill menu and more. Adam Hawley (concert)

Guitarist Adam Hawley plays “The Soul Jazz Experience” at Chayz Lounge (607 Meeting St. in West Columbia). In addition to playing his own popular material, he’ll be playing songs by Stevie Wonder, Gap Band, Chris Brown, John Legend, and more. Showtime is 8 p.m. and tickets are $39. The MOM Sale

Hands on History

Bring the kids to the Lexington County Museum (231 Fox St.) for a day of learning and fun as part of the Hands on History summer program. Children will learn about school in the 19th century. First Friday

Head over to downtown Newberry for their First Friday celebration on Aug. 5. Tour historic locations, visit downtown businesses, enjoy live music from The Well Drinkers in front of Community Hall and take part in the Wine Walk. Corsets & Cravats

It’s a 19 century fashion show at Newberry Opera House (1201 McKibben St.) on Aug. 5. Corsets & Cravats invites you to explore different materials thanks to special “Share What You Wear” presentations from attendees of the annual Corsets & Cravats Conference. Main Street Food Tour

Columbia Food Tours offers a food tour on Main Street on Aug. 6. It’s a three-hour walking food tour featuring between five and seven restaurants on and around the Main Street area of downtown Columbia. Back 2 School Summer Jam

The Township Auditorium (1703 Taylor St. in Columbia) hosts a Back 2 School Summer Jam featuring That Girl Lay Lay on Aug. 7. First Sunday

The S.C. State Museum (301 Gervais St.) hosts its First Sunday event Aug. 7. For reduced $1 admission, guests can explore four floors of South Carolina art, cultural history, natural history and science and technology, including the Boeing Observatory and the Robert B. Arial Collection of Historical Astronomy. For an additional $5, guests can see a show in the planetarium. The museum opens at noon and tickets are available on site only.
