Friday — Jan. 13

“Aladdin Jr.”
Bring the kids to the Harbison Theatre at Midlands Technical College (7300 College St. in Irmo) for a performance of “Aladdin Jr.” presented by the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commision: “Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp and the Genie who has the power to grant three wishes. Wanting to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure that will test his will and his moral character. Jordan River Band (concert)
Join Bill’s Music Shop & Pickin’ Parlor (710 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for a performance by the Jordan River Band. The group will perform bluegrass, gospel and Christian rock starting at 8 p.m. Admission is a $10 donation, and children under eight years old are free. Dragline Silk (concert)

The Emotron (concert)
Join Southern-bred solo performance artist The Emotron at New Brookland Tavern (122 State St. in West Columbia) for a show with MC Homeless, King Saul and the Heretics, and Warfare Check. Meeting Street Artisan Market
Head over to the Interactive Art Park (425 Meeting St. in West Columbia) for the Meeting Street Artisan Market. The market includes vendors selling original art, crafts, foods, and produce. Support local vendors, interact with the unique sculptures throughout the park, and then head to State and Meeting Streets, and Court Avenue to continue shopping and dining. Modern Companion 4th Birthday Bash

Jim LeBlanc (concert)

“History of BBQ” (presentation)
The Lexington County Museum (231 Fox St.) hosts historian and writer Robert F. Moss for a talk on the history of barbecue in South Carolina and Lexington County. This presentation will look at the origins of pit-cooked meats in the New World and trace the development of barbecue in South Carolina from the colonial era till today, with a special focus on Lexington County. “Wolfgang & Wine” (concert)
Jan. 14, the Koger Center for the Arts (1051 Greene St. in Columbia) and the S.C. Philharmonic performs its “Wolfgang & Wine” concert. Enjoy an evening of music by Handel, Vivaldi, and of course Mozart, paired with a special pre-show wine tasting event. General admission tickets are $25 (including both the wine tasting and the concert), and the tasting begins at 6 p.m. You must be 21 or older to participate. “Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play”
Head over to the Trustus Theatre (520 Lady St in Columbia.) for “Mr. Burns.” The play concerns a group of post-apocalyptic survivors as they gather around a fire and try to reconstruct an episode of “The Simpsons” from memory. The effort gives way to a larger effort to create the mythology for a new civilization. The suggested age for the play, which runs from Jan. 20 to Feb. 4, is 13 and up. Tickets range from $27 to $35.
