Students treat seniors to party

Gilbert High’s CREW class gave Gilbert-Summit Sneiro Center members a late Valentine’s Day party last week.

GHS teacher Lark Widener, CREW class coordinator, said the students have been planning the party since October. She said CREW connects students to the community and teaches them learning and life skills.

The students wanted to interact with seniors living in the community and the party was one way to do this. Student Abbie Baker coordinated the Valentine’s Day party with Donna Neel, Director of the Senior Center. Madison Bray planned the lunch, decorations and snacks.

CREW class students arrived early to decorate the center for the party. They placed decorations and put assorted candies on each of the tables. GSSC members dined on sandwiches, chips, and an array of desserts. For entertainment, CREW students played 1950’s dance music, which the members enjoyed. Several seniors danced to Chubby Checkers’ “Let’s Twist Again Like We Did Last Summer.”

GSSC members dressed up in red and enjoyed their special party. GSSC crafters gave students their choice of handmade signs as a thank you for the party.

Gilbert Pack 60 Scouts recently celebrated 162 years of scouting. Founder Robert Baden-Powell began Scouting as a way to help young people develop into good citizens. Since then, millions of young people have learned leadership and practical life skills that they have taken with them into adulthood. Pack 60 has several events coming up in March. This Saturday, March 2, they will have the first of two Build Days for Pinewood Derby Day. The Scouts will learn how to use tools to build race cars.

Happy birthday to Robert Conrad and his daughter Nancy Conrad, Sonny George, Noah David Cook, Miranda Hass, Rosetta Leaphart, Nancy Sorrell, Joshua Porter, Macie Victoria Sease, John Cross, Cynthia Derrick, Darlene Oswalt, Nancy Best, Mary Ann Rosson, and Alexis Rowe.
