Swansea’s Danae McNeal commits to Clemson

Posted

Danae McNeal will play Division I basketball for a Palmetto State school.

Instead of the University of South Carolina, which offered the Swansea junior guard a year ago, it’s archrival Clemson University where she will enroll in 2019 for new head coach Amanda Butler.

McNeal made her announcement on Twitter this past Friday. She had an at-home visit with Butler back in March.

“I have made my decision to commit to the University of Clemson!,” she tweeted. “Goooo Tigers!”

The 2-time Lexington Chronicle and S.C. Basketball Coaches Association’s Class 3A Player of the Year, as well as the South Carolina Girls’ Player of the Year by USA Today, McNeal averaged 24.2 points, 11 rebounds and 3.8 assists in leading the Lady Tigers to their first state semifinal since 2004.

McNeal also thanked her mother and head coach Tamara McNeal-Perdue and assistant coach Jackie Robinson for their support.

“My mom and Coach Robinson have been there for me since Day One,” she said. “Countless hours in the gym and giving me that tough love!! Like Coach Robinson says ‘we got work to do!’”

Also this past Friday, 2-time Lexington Chronicle and SCBCA Class 2A Boys Player of the Year Juwan Gray of state champion Gray College released his Top five college choices.

His Twitter posting showed logos for the University of South Carolina, Clemson University, North Carolina State, Alabama and Virginia Tech.

Gary averaged 20.5 points, 8.3 rebounds and 1.9 steals this past season in leading the War Eagles to a 25-4 record and their first-ever state championship.
