Goodle vs. the rest of us

Posted

In October the Department of Justice, C Attorney General Alan Wilson and 10 other state attorneys general filed a civil antitrust lawsuit against Google.
The suit is meant to stop Google from maintaining unlawful monopolies in search and search advertising. They claim Google is unlawfully maintaining monopolies through ant-competitive and exclusionary practices.
AG Alan Wilson said, “Google’s monopoly is hurting consumers in South Carolina and across the country and we think the company’s actions violate federal laws.”
Google has accounted for nearly 90% of all search queries in the US and has a market value of nearly $1 trillion, according to Wilson’s office. This has been achieved by using anti competitive tactics to extend and maintain that monopoly.
Even in Lexington County we are familiar with “Google” as both a proper noun referring to the company being sued and as a verb synonymous with performing an internet search.
The complaint calls Google a monopoly internet gatekeeper is due to the way Google pays billions of dollars a year to device manufacturers like Apple and Samsung and browser developers like Mozilla to make Google their default search engine. The suit claims Google prohibits these companies from dealing with Google’s competitors.
