Teen charged in school threat

A 17-year-old has been arrested and charged with making threats to shoot up Lexington High School.

Lexington student Nicholas Aaron Schneider admitted to deputies Monday night he was suicidal and upset with his school, according to an arrest warrant.

The warrant also stated Schneider had a plan to blow up Lexington High. Schneider told another teen he was going to buy guns and bulletproof vests, according to deputies.

“We became aware of the student’s thoughts and plans during our conversation with him at his house Monday night,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “After we spoke with the student, EMS determined he needed to be transported for further evaluation. We arrested him as soon as he was medically cleared and discharged.”

Lexington School District One officials notified deputies after getting word of Schneider’s comments through the district’s tip line Monday, according to Koon.

“The school district’s quick action after the tip came in helped keep Lexington High students, teachers and staff safe.”

Schneider is being held in the Lexington County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
