How was your “super-souper” weekend? Were your eyelids heavy Monday from a late night Super Bowl watch?

Yes, the unstoppable Tom Brady is a legend.

He took his Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the championship. It was great seeing former Gamecock kicker Ryan Succop kick a field goal and 4 PATs. The Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes came up short. Final score 31-9 Buccaneers.

THE SOUPER BOWL of Caring, always held in conjunction with the Super Bowl, received donations to help feed the hungry.

RAIN LOCALLY and blizzards in the northeast continue to make news. Grandson Sam Stormer and Maddie were visiting family over the weekend. On Saturday, their Sunday flight back to NYC was cancelled. Obligated to be at work Monday, they rented a car for a long unexpected drive back home. Thankfully, they arrived safely.

Last Tuesday on Groundhog Day, Pennsylvania’s most famous groundhog emerged from his burrow and saw his shadow, declaring there would be 6 more weeks of winter. But there is some good news.

Punxsutawney Phil predicted we can expect a most beautiful, bright spring.

Despite covid-19, cardiovascular disease remains the leading killer of women in the US, according to the American Heart Association. Heart disease kills a woman every 80 seconds, taking more lives than all forms of cancer combined, Cardiac deaths are on the rise in young women in their 20s.

Research indicates that the youngest, most diverse groups of women are unaware the disease is their greatest threat. The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women movement encourages you to wear red to raise awareness about cardiovascular disease. ANOTHER HEART is celebrated this month. On Valentine’s Day, Sunday, Feb. 14, we celebrate love with flowers, cards and candy. Stores gear up for an influx of last minute shoppers searching for that perfect Valentine gift. Florists ramp up supplies of roses to meet the demand.

COVID-19 IS always of prime concern as it has dominated our lives for almost a year. We have made great strides in vaccines with Pfizer, Moderna and now Johnson & Johnson coming in March.

DOWNTOWN Lexington’s Carpet One at 102 West Main Street will become Navy Yard Biergarten & Restaurant this spring with food, beverages and live entertainment. Gavin Smith, Matthew Pace and Cody Cook of Vision Ventures Investment Group partnered with KCR Properties owned by Jeremy Addy and his family. They will serve lunch and dinner Tuesday - Sunday with brunch each Saturday and Sunday.

REMEMBER the 7th Lexington County Chili Cook-Off, Sunday, Feb. 21, noon-5 pm at the Icehouse Amphitheater Pavilion.

ANNE BULL tells us Dr. Charles Harmon has retired after 47 years of serving our community with his skills as a surgeon. He said he grew up believing “you should fix things that are broken.” He mended humans and repaired classic cars. He said he has traded in his scalpel for a screwdriver.

A SPECIAL birthday was celebrated with a drive-by Saturday for Marayal Dorothy Lites Wise who was a young 100. She was born on Feb. 6, 1921 to John and Ethel Dent Lites. She was married to Willie Oscar Wise. Her secrets to living to 100 are trust in the Lord, be good and love children.
