Lauren Middleton had a Hole in 1 playing golf with her husband Greg a few weeks ago at Charwood Golf Club.

“Her 7-iron over the water was beautiful to watch and 2 weeks later she gave birth to Nora Blair,” commented her husband Greg. Number 12 at Charwood is now a par 3 that is very challenging. Before the redesign, it was a sharp dogleg left par 4.

Blair was born early, but “she is doing extraordinarily well,” according to husband and regular golf partner Greg.

I met Blair’s older brother Reed at The Player’s Club just after Christmas and he was swinging a putter beautifully.

Within a few minutes, Scott Middleton, Greg’s dad and Reed’s grandad, walked up. Then, Dave Middleton, Scott’s father, appeared and there were 4 generations present. All had golf clubs in their hands too and what a beautiful picture.

The Player’s Club at Main Event is an indoor generational golf venue. Families can enjoy a game of golf together, but there is more.

In addition to golf, there is baseball, football, soccer, shooting and more. There is good food, spirits and a fun atmosphere.

Mike Ramsey and I visited another generational golf facility in the mountains called Glen Cove. This is an outdoor 12-hole par 3 that the 2 of us played in about 80 minutes walking. Glen Cove is located in Cashiers, NC.

Both the Player’s Club and Glen Cove have one common denominator. They both are time friendly and that is huge. At both locations, it’s really easy to play for 20-30 minutes and get in a lot of golf. Access is very easy, meaning you can get on and off the course really quick, with no hassle.

Our local recreation centers have generational family Junior Golf options available this summer. It’s called the Family Junior series which offers a “generational education component” and it opens the weekend of June 25-26.

The Lexington Recreation and Aging Commission and Richland County Recreation Commission, both encourage grandparents, great-grandparents and parents to both attend and participate with their juniors.

Both programs begin with skill building and end with playing on the course. The entire family learns and plays together. It’s a 6-week program so check these websites for specifics: http://richlandcountyrecreation.com/fall-golf-programs-at-linrick-golf-course/, https://sports.bluesombrero.com/lcrac.

The US Open is being conducted this Fathers Day weekend and my pick is Dustin Johnson.

He’s been my pick for the 2 previous majors and will be again. His game looks good and had a solid Palmetto Golf Championship last week at Congaree.
