The 2020 regular season ended Saturday with another loss for the University of South Carolina football team.

The Gamecocks fell 41-18 to Kentucky. It was the 6th loss in 7 meetings for South Carolina, who ended the regular season with a 6-game losing streak and 2-8 record.

A bright spot was running back Kevin Harris surpassing 1,000 yards on the season. He finished with 210 yards and a touchdown to lead the offense.

A holding penalty took away a Shi Smith touchdown reception in his 1st game back following his concussion injury. The Gamecocks’ Parker White then missed the 38-yard field goal attempt wide right.

Kentucky capitalized on its scoring opportunity with a 22-yard field goal by Matt Ruffalo to go up 3-0 with 5:41 left in the 1st quarter.

On South Carolina’s next series, wide receiver Zaquandre White had the football stripped away during a run by Kentucky’s Jordan Wright. A 26-yard run by AJ Rose Jr. set up a 1-yard touchdown by Chris Rodriquez Jr. to extend the lead to 10-0.

South Carolina managed to score on its next series as White connected on a 47-yard field goal with 1:45 left in the 1st quarter.

Kentucky extended the lead to 17-3 with 10:45 left in the 2nd quarter on Rose’s 8-yard touchdown run

A 10-yard run on the next series put Harris over 1,000 yards for the season. The drive ended with an interception thrown by Luke Doty to Yard Corker at the 36-yard line.

Before halftime, Kentucky put together a 7-play, 43-yard scoring drive following a personal foul penalty by South Carolina’s White on the punt coverage. Rodriguez scored from 2 yards with 1:17 left and the Wildcats were up 24-3.

With 42 seconds left, Doty lost the football during a run and Wright made his 2nd fumble recovery of the night. A pass interference penalty put Kentucky in position for a 41-yard field goal by Ruffalo to extend the Wildcats’ lead to 27-3 at halftime.

The 3rd quarter saw the Wildcats put together a 13-play, 75-yard scoring drive capped by a 1-yard touchdown run by quarterback Terry Wilson to go up 34-3.

A 15-yard touchdown run by Harris in the 3rd quarter, a 30-yard touchdown pass from Doty to Dakareon Joyner and 2-point conversion in the 4th quarter brought South Carolina to within 34-18.

Rodriguez closed out the scoring for Kentucky (4-6) with a 79-yard touchdown run with 5:06 left in the game. He finished with 139 yards, followed by Rose with 101 yards.
