Athlete of the Year voting continues this week after the first round of preliminary voting concluded with six finalists advancing. Chapin’s Reagan Haggard and Northside Christian’s Cade McNeil were the top vote-getters in their respective categories. Joining them in the final is Ta’maj Gilliam from Batesburg-Leesville, Lucas New from Pelion, Ahleira Leaphart from Gilbert and Natalie Walke from Northside Christian.

This week, 12 new boys and 12 new girls from the area will be nominated with the top three from each moving on to the final vote against the six earlier nominees.

Voting will run each week starting at 10 a.m. on Thursday until 10 a.m. on Monday. Cast your ballot once per day on our website at lexingtonchronicle.com/athleteoftheweek.

Here is how the voting process works

• June 13-17: Vote any athlete of your choice from 12 male and 12 female nominees, top three from each move on
• June 20-24: Vote any athlete of your choice from a new set of 12 male and 12 female nominees, top three from each move on
• June 27-July 1: Vote for the male and female Athletes of the Year from the remaining nominees
• July 4: Winners announced!
