That run has ended, as the restaurant at 1220 Charleston Hwy has closed, effective Dec. 5.
“It has been an absolute pleasure being able to operate our small business in the Cayce/West Columbia area,” the restaurant’s owners, the Villegas family, posted to Facebook on Dec. 3. “We share memories with customers that became friends and we saw children grow up to become wonderful men and women.”
The post doesn’t give any specific reasons for the decision to close the restaurant. The owners didn’t immediately respond to the Chronicle’s request for comment.
La Fiesta’s large menu spanned combo dinners that featured items like burritos, tacos and enchiladas in addition to fajitas, vegetarian and seafood options. The similarly branded La Fiesta restaurant in Camden has different owners.
While the Villegas are closing their West Columbia fixture, they left open the possibility of returning to the restaurant business.
“We hope that we have been successful in our goals in offering a pleasant and welcoming environment for you to enjoy a meal,” the family posted. “We will be retiring for a while and eventually you may see us in a new endeavor. We wish to thank you again for your patronage and hope that you have a nice holiday season.”
The restaurant’s Facebook announcement was greeted by an outpouring of support. As of Dec. 5, more than 200 people have commented on the post.
“Such a shame,” Bill Barlow commented. “This has been our favorite Mexican restaurant since we escaped across the river. Great food, great service, always a friendly, family environment. Hope to see them back in the near future.“
“I have been eating here since I was 12 years old. I'm now 40!!” Lisa McKinley Spradley commented. “Thank you for all of the memories and special occasions I have celebrated here. We love y’all and will miss you all terribly!!”
