If you have an iPhone updated to use iOS 14, your phone will tell you when its camera or microphone is recording. The indicator shows up as a small green dot.
The dot appears over the cellular signal indicator if your camera or microphone are active. If your microphone is active or recording, the indicator is orange. The indicators work if the app for your camera or microphone are in the background.
If you have an Android phone, the recording indicators are not yet part of its operating system. This feature is expected to be in the Android 12 update this year.
The Play store has a free app to help called Access Dots-Android 12/iOS 14 privacy indicators. You can go directly to the app listing by visiting: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=you.in.spark.access.dots. The app is free. When set up it will show when your camera, microphone or GPS are on even if the screen is locked.
If you have updated your iPhone to the latest iOS software, learn more about the other new features on Mac Rumors at www.macrumors.com/roundup/ios-14/ .
