Lexington School District 1 received a special achievement at Lexington High School on Monday, April 29. The Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) officially recognized Lexington One as a Purple Star School District at their Military Signing Day held at Lexington High School. This designation acknowledges their dedication to supporting the unique needs of military-connected students facing academic transitions due to relocations. The ceremony was held at Lexington High School’s Performing Arts Center. Graduating seniors from Gilbert, Lexington, Pelion, River Bluff and White Knoll high schools signed for their chosen branch of service and also received commemorative graduation stoles. Distinguished guests at the ceremony included State Superintendent of Education Ellen Weaver, S.C. State Representative Chris Wooten, Maj. General Todd McCaffrey, Secretary with the S.C. Department of Veterans’ Affairs and S.C. House of Representatives Paula Calhoon along with district and school leaders.
