A man has been charged with driving under the influence in connection with the Dec. 24 Lexington County crash that killed a 24-year-old and a 1-year-old from West Columbia.
According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, 27-year-old Lee Jordan Little of Richland County has been charged with two counts of driving under the influence resulting in death, as well as felony DUI with great bodily injury and transporting an open bottle of alcohol in a vehicle.
Little was booked at the Lexington County Detention Center on Jan. 8.
Gloria Martinez Alonso, 24, and Elisa Martinez, 1, of West Columbia, were identified by Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher as the two who died in the wreck on Christmas Eve.
The two-vehicle accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Dec. 24 on Platt Springs Road in the Lexington area of Lexington County.
Alonso and Martinez were two of three passengers traveling in a vehicle eastbound when they were struck head-on by another vehicle traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes. They were pronounced dead at the scene, according to a release from the coroner, and the other passenger in the vehicle with Alonso and Martinez was transported to a nearby hospital with "critical" injuries. Little was also hospitalized after the crash. SCHP later said Little was driving a 2016 Cadillac SUV in the wrong direction when it collided with the 2010 Ford Focus.
Little's bond is set at $275,257.50.
The Lexington County Coroner’s Office and the South Carolina Highway Patrol investigated.
