Donna Jones Hunter, 66, of Lexington, has been identified as the woman who died in a house fire, according to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher. 

The fire occurred at 6 a.m. on Oct. 14 in the 100 block of Gillfield Court in the Lexington area. 

Lexington County Fire Service responded to the scene along with the Irmo Fire District, Lexington County EMS and the Town of Lexington Police Department. When crews arrived, they found heavy flames coming from the back of a two-story home. 

The media release stated firefighters made multiple attempts to reach a person trapped inside but were forced to withdraw due to the conditions. 

The autopsy determined Hunter died from smoke inhalation. 

Another person in the home was seriously injured and taken to a burn center in Augusta for treatment.  

The Lexington County Fire Service is working with several partner agencies to investigate the cause of the fire, documents say.
