Travis Leon Horton, 38, of Pelion was positively identified as the individual who died in a motorcycle versus vehicle accident on March 19.

The accident occurred on Meadowfield Road in the Gaston area. According to the press release, Horton was traveling northbound attempting to evade the police when he hit a vehicle that was also traveling northbound.

Horton was not wearing a helmet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Lexington County Coroner’s Office, South Carolina Patrol MAIT and South Carolina Highway Patrol will continue to investigate the incident.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) estimated that wearing a helmet reduces the risk of death by 37% and head injuries by 69%.
