Police are investigating the disappearance of 15 baby chicks from Lakeside Middle School, and two individuals who were originally thought to be involved have been cleared.
The potential theft is said to have happened on either April 18 or 19.
The chickens were housed in the agricultural area of Lakeside Middle School, a Lexington County School District One school, located near downtown Lexington.
“Earlier today we shared an image of a man and woman who were believed to be persons of interest in the disappearance of 15 baby chickens from the agricultural area at Lakeside Middle School over the weekend. They were both quickly identified through the social media post and immediately volunteered to come to the Lexington Police Department for an interview with detectives,” according to a statement from Lexington Police Department. “Through the course of the investigation, detectives were able to clear these two individuals from being involved in the theft of the chicks. We appreciate their cooperation and understanding as we continue to work through this investigation.”
Those who may have information regarding the disappearance are being asked to contact Detective Corporal Heath at 803-358-1557 or kheath@lexsc.gov.
