1st storm of hurricane season to miss us

Tropical Storm Arthur heads for NC Outer Banks

It looks like we’ll miss the 1st one.

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued from Surf City to Duck, NC, and Pamlico to the Albemerle Islands.

Tropical Storm Arthur became the 1st named storm of the 2020 Atlantic hurricane season Saturday night off the Florida coast.

Although the official start of hurricane season is June 1, there has been a preseason tropical system for most of the last 10 years.

It is not uncommon to have tropical activity this early, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Courtney Travis.

Arthur was producing sustained winds of 40 mph, according to an advisory by the National Hurricane Center.

Arthur was about 355 miles south-southwest of Cape Hatteras, NC, Sunday morning, traveling northnortheast at 9 mph.

Arthur was predicted to lose its tropical characteristics Tuesday.

The strongest winds will likely remain to the east of the low and across the open waters of the Atlantic.

“We are monitoring the potential for the storm to bring the Outer Banks more rain and wind,” AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Rob Miller said.
