Two suspects have been arrested following an aggravated assault in Chapin.

Bryant Hunter Sanders, a Newberry Resident, and Jared Hunter Peake, a Lugoff resident, were arrested as suspects in an aggravated assault that took place Sept. 29 at 1153 Chapin Road in Chapin, according to a Facebook post from the Chapin Police Department.

According to the post Sanders was arrested at his Newberry residence shortly after the incident and was charged with Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature and Criminal Conspiracy. Peake was arrested in Eastland, Texas by the Eastland Police Department on warrants for Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Violent Crime and Criminal Conspiracy, all stemming from this case.

The incident happened around 2:30 a.m. when officers responded to a call in reference to a victim being assaulted and needed medical equipment.

Officers determined that the victim met with the suspects in a parking lot of a closed business located 1153 Chapin Road, following a previous argument that occurred outside the Town of Chapin,” the post states. "The victim believed that the argument had been settled when he was violently assaulted. The suspects planned to assault the victim and did so by striking him in the head with a handgun multiple times while also landing numerous blows to his arms and body.”

According to the post the victim sustained multiple injuries to his face, head, arms and body and was bleeding profusely after the assault causing him to seek emergency medical equipment.

The post states that the victim was transported to Lexington Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

A thorough investigation was conducted at the scene and Sanders was identified as the first suspect and with the assistance of the Newberry Police Department, Chapin police responded to his home address, according to the post.

According to the post Peake was identified as a suspect later in the investigation, upon being suspected arrest warrants were issued for his arrest. Once he was arrested he was extradited from Texas by the Chapin police department and was transported to the Lexington County Detention Center on Oct. 18.

Peake remained in the jail as of Oct. 19, with bonds set totaling $300,000. Sanders was released after posting bonds totaling $80,000.
