More than 800 of W.F. Sullivan’s fans turned out for a fundraiser for him.
“I just want to tell y’all, the Chapin High graduates and Chapin community, I just love all of y’all to death and I could never thank you enough,” Coach Sullivan told the crowd.
Sullivan coached and taught math at Chapin High for 46 years before retiring in 2016.
When the word got out in Chapin he was fighting cancer, former students Ryan Gordon and Shannon Rogers organized the event.
T-shirts with his favorite phrase, “Tough Mustard” were sold to raise money.
Sullivan spoke for 45 minutes about his memories of teaching.
Former students and colleagues stood in a long line to greet him.
Ludicrous Foods created the “Tuff mustard W.F. Sullivan burger” which was a culinary hit with the crowd.
The silent auction, bake sales and the Go Fund Me account has brought in more than $23,000.
