3 strategies to connect with others

Want 3 sure-fire ways to connect with prospects and customers, courtesy of our friend MaryEllen Tribby?

1. Be a Giver. Concentrate on helping others and the “getting” will follow. It will come in unexpected ways.

Remember that no one likes a “taker.” When you are generous, people will respect you. And people like to do business with people they respect, trust and like.

Put on a happy face at the door and smile. This is your time to shine. People will look forward to seeing you if you are energetic, positive and outgoing. People enjoy doing business with people they like. Strive to make everyone forget their troubles while they are with you.

2. Don’t Sell. Connecting is about building relationships with people who will be happy to tell others about you and what you do. Word of mouth has value.

Show your interest in them. Ask who they are, what they do and who they do it for. Provide valuable, useful information that will help them. Refer others to them and they will refer their friends to you.

3. Follow Up. Ask for their card and, after the event or meeting, send a hand written thank you note. Mention something from your discussion. If you have truly made the connection, your follow up becomes easy.
